Success What Should You Focus On

Developing the Next Generation of Rainmakers Success: What Should You Focus On? After my WHAT IS THE SECRET TO A PRODUCTIVE AND SATISFYING LAW CAREER  presentation yesterday at the University of Nebraska  law school, a student asked: What should I focus on to be a successful lawyer? I thought it was a great question. I especially liked that she included “what should I focus on..” I could have given an entire presentation just answering that one question. But, I had very little time and had to come up with a “sound bite” short answer. So, I replied: Success does not come from focusing on success, happiness and money. Instead it comes from focusing on your passion, developing your talent, and identifying the needs of those you want to serve. What do you think? P.S. If you would like to check out the slides from the presentation, you can find them here. Its a sellers world for skilled-up IT contractors Viewpoint careers advice blog

Its a sellers world for skilled-up IT contractors Which countries have the greatest need for their capabilities? Is it still a contractor’s world out there? It is a question every gun-for-hire in the competitive global IT skills market might be asking themselves in the age of austerity. But wherever you look, the answer seems to be a resounding yes. Even in the UK, where rates have remained relatively static, contractors can pick and choose their jobs. In 2012, more than half of those questioned said they would take up to eight weeks between appointments to choose their next position. Only 6% said they would consider a permanent post as their next career move. Contractor clout continues The continued clout of the contractor might have something to do with the maturing of projects that were delayed or postponed during the financial crisis but are now trickling through to realisation. In Australia and Japan, there is strong evidence of commercial and government projects finally reaching implementation stage and contractors stepping in to fill vital skills gaps. Once they have contractors on board, employers are looking to protect their IT IP by retaining them in long-term roles or giving them responsibility for specific programmes â€" an attractive prospect with the incentive of a good salary. But if you’re a contractor, is that enough to make you bite? We are seeing signs globally that contracting rates are returning to pre-recession levels. In Japan and Australia, they are particularly competitive. In Canada, despite a slight drop in employers’ plans to use temporary IT staff, the market remains buoyant. When recession hit, an army of permanent staff switched to contracting roles to preserve their livelihood â€" and discovered that they could command significant rates to compensate for the lack of employee benefits. Having tasted freedom, contractors there will want to see those rates matched by permanent salaries if they are to be tempted back to the fold. Read our Viewpoint blog here.

QA with Simon Tam, Musician Social Entrepreneur

QA with Simon Tam, Musician Social Entrepreneur QA with Simon Tam, Musician Social Entrepreneur image source: Simon TamASIAN-American musician, author and social activist Simon Tam is best known as the founder of the Asian-American dance-rock band, The Slants, and for his landmark legal challengeâ€"and victoryâ€"over the right to use and trademark the band’s name.“I love knowing that working in music makes the world a better place.”Simon Tam has  recalled that he and his bandmates  chose  the name because of the “slanted eyes” that Asians are stereotypically held to have in common, and because it sounded like “an ’80s, new wave band, which is music we want… we can talk about it being our ‘slant on life’, as being people of color”.In his bid to register “The Slants”, Simon Tam was attempting to “take ownership” of Asian stereotypes.Although the legal challenge has distracted Tam and his bandmates from making music, it has not prevented them from winning critical acclaim and awards. Tam himself is a regular music industry commentator, and has written two books,  How to Get Sponsorships and Endorsements and  Music Business Hacks: The Daily Life of the Self-Made Musician.Simon Tam is also a notable social activist, using music and all platforms to raise awareness about racial and social injustice, and other issues that affect the Asian American community. All profits from The Slants’ 2009 remix album  Slants! Slants! Revolution were donated to cancer research for Asian women. Tam himself  donates half his  income from the music business to charity. His involvement in the legal challenge has also led to his involvement in  a number of TEDx talksâ€"more than 10 as a speaker, performer and emceeâ€"on the subject of systematic racism.Simon took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to AGENT about his career in the music industry, and pass on advice to those who aspire to work in the business. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); 1. What made you decide to pursue a career in the music industry?Since my earliest me mories, Ive always had a passion for music. My parents have home videos of me  grabbing my dads guitar at age two, jumping on the coffee table, and pretending to play a show for the family. I finally got formal lessons at age 10, founded my first record label and music promotions company at age 13, and continued from there.2. What is one myth about working in the ‘business’ side of the music industry?Theres no magic formula for success. Many people think that if they can get just meet the right people at an industry party, send their demo to the right label, or intern for the hottest new booking agency, theyll find success. The reality is that the music industry is like any other businessâ€"it requires tenacity, initiative, and proven results. Education helps, too, though you dont need a specialised degree from some for-profit university. You can study business, communications, law, and other transferrable skills to help you. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); 3 . What gives you the most satisfaction in your work?I love knowing that working in music makes the world a better place. While this doesnt involve some kind of direct nonprofit support (though I donate half my income from the music business to charity), I get to support the creation of more art through helping artists as well as directly writing and performing music myself.4. What is your earliest musical memory? One of my earliest musical memories was when I was learning how to play bass guitar at age ten. When I first started, I would practice until my fingers would get blistered and bleed. To keep going, I would wrap my fingertips with scotch tape so it wouldnt hurt as much but that would often leave a small residue on the strings themselves. Once, my bass teacher seemed really perplexed when he noticed a strange coat of sticky goo all over the strings. He thought I was using some weird string cleaner but didnt realise it was just from the tape shredding on the strings.Image Sourc e: YouTube (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); 5. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? When I first wake up, I try to think of three things I am grateful for. It helps set the tone for the rest of the day. After that, I begin thinking about what I want to accomplish then start browsing messages with those goals in mind. I dont like busy work or simply being reactive to my workload. I like being as effective as possible and that means working towards a very specific focus.6. What can you not leave the house without,  and why?If Im to be honest, its my laptop. To me, its more important than my phone, wallet, or keys. I have everything on the device, from the draft of my newest book to the core files for my next record. Even though I have everything backed up, I like being able to access and work on those things instantly. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); 7. What advice would you give your younger self starting out in the m usic industry?I would remind myself to always remember my values and my priorities. The music industry can be pretty cut-throat and many people will compromise their principles in hopes of getting a break. But those who truly make an impact and create a sustainable career do so on integrity.Image Source: Simon Tam

Goodness, and Kate Beckinsale was delegated the hottest lady on the planet, per Esquire. U.S. Residents: Your gaining force and total assets are subject to considering yourself to be employable by anybody, anyplace. Your own image must grasp that you are a world resident, not on the grounds that it's the pleasant thing to be or in light of the fact that a dangerous atmospheric devation is dissolving another mainland's ice tops and you'll pass up observing polar bears. At this moment, your best employment might be with a worldwide not situated in the US, a US organization that is comprehensively arranged or any business where you're not simply serving local people. Except if your own image is to purposefully take into account local people, such as running a local burger joint, which is unfathomably cool and could thoroughly shake an improving couple of squares. Obviously, on the off chance that your own image is pioneering, at that point you may be pondering diversifying your idea, so recall Subway has more abroad stores than residential. Worldwide reasoning isn't only for brands like Coke, Nike and Disneyland any longer. Progressively, it's for your own image and mine. My cousin Allan began maintaining an exemplary Mustang parts business in Long Beach. His own image was enormous with the participation of a couple of neighborhood Mustang vehicle clubs and the great vehicle nerds at flea markets. After five years, he makes the vast majority of his cash delivering vehicles abroad. He's assembled his own image by being an unshakable provider of cherry condition vehicles to huge cash bidders in Australia, New Zealand, the EU, the UAE and obviously, Asia. So residents of the US, make your own image worldwide inviting. Peruse a business decorum book that reveals to you the principles in the spots where you won't discover natural countenances. Like how you should appear on time to German gatherings yet remain quiet when you're the just one in the meeting room in Rio and it's two hours after the fact than, goodness allows simply state you foreseen. In the event that you had the oil, new water and Olympics that Brazil has, you may be more easygoing than concerned when the US visits you. This is what you do now 1. Pick a day by day paper site from 5 countries just one of them from your nation of origin. Peruse at any rate the features. Indeed â€" the majority of them are converted into English (we despite everything are the language of aviation authority). 2. Look for your identification, and if it's a great opportunity to recharge it, snap a picture that makes you resemble a reliable agent, dislike you at 19, requiring a hair style and living on Ramen noodles. 3. Pick 3 worldwide organizations to follow on the web, so you can perceive what it resembles to be a piece of the entire world â€" and not think you are the entire world. While a resume written by someone who is being hired is generally looked at a little differently than one written by an individual who is trying to get a job, it is still important to put as much original thinking into your writing as possible. This is because most employers want to see something fresh and well thought out. Often times, that is not the case, especially when a company is not looking for a specific candidate. For instance, if a marketing company wants to recruit new writers, it might want someone with a diverse skill set, someone who has had experience with aspecific niche market, or someone who is a highly creative writer. A good resume will reflect that.Sometimes, a resume written by someone who does not have an original idea is not going to cut it either. Instead of using content mills to write a resume, it may be a good idea to use a web based resume service. These services work with professionals to write professional resumes, and it is generally a better choice.Since it is a full service business, it is confident that each resume written will meet the needs of the prospective employer, which means the quality will be good. In addition, when a resume is created and sent to a company, it can be a huge time saver for the company as well.Writing a resume should be a fun, rewarding experience. However, it is also crucial that you take time to think about how to make it unique and to give the impression that you are the perfect candidate for the job. Once you get past the initial hurdle, you can get started on writing the best resume possible!

How to Make Big Career Decisions With No Regret - The Muse

Step by step instructions to Make Big Career Decisions With No Regret - The Muse Step by step instructions to Make Big Career Decisions With No Regret What settles on major choices so hard? As a choice mentor, I see numerous individuals battle with intense decisions, since they super need to have no second thoughts. While I've never met any individual who felt they hit the nail on the head 100% of the time, returning to the essentials can assist you with getting clear on what you need and rest easy thinking about pushing ahead. Here are five straightforward procedures I've learned for reducing the chances that you'll think back and wish you did it another way. 1. You've Got to Collect All the Information The initial step is inquire about. On the off chance that you settle on a choice without the correct data like joining an organization without realizing what the way of life is truly similar to you're setting yourself up for dissatisfaction later on when you pick up something that would've had any kind of effect. Placing the time in toward the front methods less possibilities for lament down the line. You would prefer not to think, If just I'd looked at the site all the more intently! or I should've asked that in my meeting! You need to figure, I did my exploration and settled on the best choice I could. 2. You've Got to Chill Out Settling on a decision is distressing commonly, yet doing it from a position of quiet thought brings down your opportunity of making an inappropriate one. That is on the grounds that the more settled you are, the more uncertain you are to make a rushed, passionate choice. Attempt to get into a casual perspective, expel any stressors-including individuals from the room, and thoroughly consider your choice with a reasonable head and a receptive outlook. Try not to surge, don't blow a gasket; rather, take full breaths and consider the realities. In case you're not in the correct state, inquire as to whether you need to gauge your alternatives right at that point, or on the off chance that you can hold up until a superior time (i.e., thinking about it normally makes a difference). 3. You've Got to Know All the Options A customer as of late requested that I assist her with thoroughly considering a major, crosscountry move. Her significant other had a proposition for employment with a more significant compensation in the new area; and keeping in mind that they adored where they were, they were battling monetarily in a costly city. I brought up that her choices weren't just to take the activity or to remain and keep on scarcely make a decent living. There were different ways she could change her circumstance: her significant other could request a raise, she could search for low maintenance work, or they could scale back their home. Try not to leave any choice unexplored, regardless of how impossible it appears: You need to know the full scope of decisions and not restrict yourself to two. 4. You've Got to Keep a List Rather than simply experiencing the advantages and disadvantages in your mind, work them out in list structure. It's not simply an issue of explaining significant focuses and picking a side. Keeping the rundown will assist you with limiting misgiving, supposing that you begin to re-think yourself later on, you'll have proof for why you settled on the choice you did. Once in a while, a straightforward update that your decision depended on solid variables and the best data you had at that point and wasn't simply made spontaneously can enable re-to arrange your reasoning so you rest easy thinking about the way you took. 5. You've Got to Keep Things in Perspective This is significant both during dynamic and a while later. We regularly get so made up for lost time in finding the best alternative that it devours us. Advising yourself that things will be OK regardless of which decision you make-which is genuine more often than not places you in the correct outlook for a lament free choice. You're not great and that is OK, nobody is. In some cases, we pick severely, or conditions outside our ability to control imply that a choice we made wasn't the correct one. Lament is typically useless and inconsequential, and despite the fact that that doesn't help when you have a feeling that you committed a colossal error, the less time you spend harping on what could have been, the better. As a last resort, attempt to channel that lament into something valuable. Settling on a poor choice sets you up for better dynamic later on. Break down what turned out badly, refine your procedure, and push ahead. Photograph of individual reflecting politeness of alvarez/Getty Images.

?? Why Paper Resumes Arent Going Away Anytime Soon

?? Why Paper Resumes Aren't Going Away Anytime Soon 164 For years, people have been saying that paper resumes are dead. Are they really? Photo by clive darra The hype Search Twitter for “paper resume” and many of the results are articles announcing that the Internet-based resume era is here. Free bonus: The One Resume Resource You’ll Ever Need is a handy reference to make your resume get you more job interviews. Download it free noweval But who has actually been saying they’re dead? 1) Companies who stand to gain from you not using them, such as video resume companies eval While video resumes and paper resumes will both help you on your job search, one doesn’t negate the other as you might think after seeing the above tweet. They’re both personal job search marketing tools that can make an impact when used appropriately. 2) Recruiters who don’t want to deal with paper resumes anymore And I don’t blame them. Since I started JobMob back in 2006, I’ve received hundreds of resumes via email and have viewed many more online. I’m not a recruiter, but if I had to store all those as paper somewhere, my home office would need a second floor. As it is, whenever a job seeker hands me their resume at a networking event or job fair, I’ll always tell them to save it for others at the event without forgetting to email it to me later. 3) Personal branding experts, like me In my 5 Most Interesting Notes From the 2010 Israeli Recruitment Conference, I mentioned that- Morit Rozen even said that “the resume is going to die” â€" I disagree; more on that another time â€" and that soon, recruiters will just want names and use the Internet to find everything else. She suggests googling yourself right now (“????” â€" l’gagel) to make a quick assessment of your situation, and I definitely agree with that. And I still do. But even if I’ve been recommending for years that you regularly build your brand online through social media, personal websites, blogging, or whatever combination makes the most sense for you, that still doesn’t mean you don’t need a paper resume any more. The truth Reasons why you still need a paper resume: Even in 2015, many companies still aren’t fully digital, especially smaller companies who make up the majority of any major job search market Be different. When everything is going virtual, the few people who successfully manage both the online and the offline will really standout. (This is why some people are still using fax machines to get their resumes in the door) Digital resumes get lost just as easily as paper ones. Resume copies you bring to interviews might be the only ones in the room, and the interviewers will appreciate that when it happens, especially when they go on to take notes directly on your copies. Like a business card, a resume crisply printed on high quality paper leaves a professional impression wherever you go: networking event or job fair. To show off your creativity The proof In May 2014, I posted the following poll to JobMob: Have you sent or given a paper resume to recruiters in the past year? No (55%, 278 Votes) Yes (45%, 227 Votes) Started: May 7, 2014 @ 10:19 amTotal Voters: 505 If the paper resume was truly dead, why would such a high percentage of people still be using them? How to Hack Your First Job

How to Hack Your First Job It’s graduate time, and thousands of young graduates will be entering the market looking for their first “real” job. Many of them (and their parents) find this time to be filled with anxiety. Will I be competitive? Will I get a job that inspires me (and pays the bills)? Will I make enough to move out on my own and start the life I’ve always dreamed of? Embed from Getty Imageswindow.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'LwROM2_9Qs15ZY_1CZnHCA',sig:'WG38DJBzPKEhp4JNcJNWYz76YgLsC_XfDZeiS-0gorg=',w:'507px',h:'338px',items:'513367799',caption: false ,tld:'com',is360: false })}); My best advice: relax. Your first job will probably follow this predictable emotional arc. Got the job:             Woo hoo!                                               I am on my way to fame and glory! First Day:                         Holy #$%**                      This is terrifying â€" I’ll never get it all straight. Three months:       I can breathe now.                     I think I got this. Six months:                 I rock!                               The boss noticed me today and said “nice job.” Ten months:             OMG â€" kill me now.                 I am literally going to die of boredom. We’ve all been there. Entry level jobs, by definition, require less sophisticated reasoning skills and usually require lots of repetitive and dull â€" but necessary tasks. But entry level workers who submit to the boredom are in grave danger of scuttling their career â€" at least with this company. Managers monitor entry level workers carefully for attitude and excellence, both of which are critical to success. A worker who disdains the work he’s given will probably disdain the work at any level he rises to. Contempt for doing the basics usually signals that the worker is more interested in what she can get, rather than what she can give. I love what actor Ashton Kutcher  said in a beautifully written Teen’s Choice Award acceptance  speech in 2013. (Here’s a link to the transcript of the speech.) He spoke directly to the millions of young fans in the audience, saying, “My name is actually not even Ashton. Ashton is my middle name. My first name’s Chris. And it always has been. It got changed when I was like 19 and I became an actor.” He then went on to “share some really amazing things I learned when I was Chris….” He outlines all the menial jobs he held as a teenager, including “a job in a factory sweeping Cheerio dust off the floor.” He gives a tribute to entry level work, saying, “I never had a job in my life that I was better than. I was always just lucky to have a job. Every job I had was a stepping stone to my next job and I never quit my job before I had my next job.” Kutcher is a new father, and I hope he passes on those values to his child. If he does, he’ll create the hardest-working trust fund baby in Hollywood. What some entry level workers don’t understand is that their current job is always an audition for their next job. You have important work to do: master the skills you need right now, do a great job on your assignments, and take every chance you can to learn and do more. If you’ve done a good job, and managed to smile and enjoy yourself, you’ll have earned a recommendation for your next job, whether it’s in your current company or your next.

How to Dress for a Beach Party

How to Dress for a Beach Party A tropical backdrop, fruity cocktails, sun umbrellas, seaside chairs, beach balls, and blaring music â€" these are a few of the things that beach parties usually comprise.   And even though it sounds laid-back, there’s something about beach parties that gets us excited and nervous at the same time. Avoid elaborate hairdos for a day at the beach. Keep it simple and natural. Tousled waves and curls are a great hairstyle for a beach party. If you do not like leaving them open, tie them in a simple ponytail or a side braid. Dressing for a beach party should be an enjoyable experience as it sets the tone for what is to come. Pay heed to the above tips and enjoy your beach revelry to the hilt.

The Secret to Your Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

The Secret to Your Success - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career There are many definitions of success. Many are subjective and some are imposed by others. In business and in life there is one simple way to insure you will be successful in your endeavors. Ok, maybe not insure, but certainly increase the likelihood of success. Even when you know and seek this “secret” there are still a lot of moving parts that can impact various stages of any successful effort. Knowing this secret will help you think about what is important. Knowing this secret will help you focus on delivering the actual value instead of the perceived value. Knowing how to use this secret will help you communicate better, engage more effectively and stand out in your career. The Secret is as simple as thinking about, and if needed, asking one question. The question can be asked of yourself for you to mull over and evaluate. Or depending upon your relationship with the other person you may want to ask them directly. What is this secret? Simple… Seek the Selfish Motivation of the person you are looking to work with or otherwise engage. You would not likely ask someone… “What’s your selfish motivation here?” However, you can come up with nicer and less direct ways to ask the same thing. For example, you could ask “In a perfect world what would you expect as the outcome here?” The key is to truly seek the Atavistic Self-Interest of the person you are working with and to truly understand what they value. Value is in the eye of the Beholder When you know what the other person values you can more effectively decide if you can provide what they are looking for.  Ask the question, either directly or  to yourself,  and then decide if you have the products, skills or services to meet their specific goals. Once you know what they value you can create a plan to describe what you can do to help them achieve them. The key point here is what THEY value. How do you find out? Simple. You seek their selfish motivation. The Secret to Your Success Its as simple as… Asking yourself the question and really seeking the answer to the following: Whats the Selfish Motivation?

20 Ways to Impress Your Boss CareerMetis.com

20 Ways to Impress Your Boss Impressing the boss is often an important part of the job. You want your boss to see your strengths, offer praise and reward you. However, you don’t necessarily want to work harder. You may already work endlessly and with great exhaustion, or you may recognize that your pay isn’t high enough to put in more hours. In any case, you can still impress your boss without bringing yourself down.1) Start StrongevalevalBefore you even begin your first day of work, you can impress your boss.Make sure that your CVand cover letter are as polished as possible. Depending upon the nature of the job and the size of the company, your boss might have seen scores of stellar application packages. When yours stands out, even if just a bit above the rest, you’re already on the road to making a big entrance. Keep in mind that you should generally bring paper copies of your application material to the interview when you have submitted the documents online. You might be asked for copies.2) Show Confidenc eHaving an overbearing amount of confidence, especially in the early days of your new job, can come across as demonstrating hubris. On the other hand, if you are afraid to make any moves without first asking a superior, you may seem as though you don’t know what you’re doing.Starting the position with a healthy dose of confidenceand then building upon that vibe as you go is a wise decision. Remember that you were hired because important people at the company feel that you know what you’re doing.3) Listen ActivelyAt the start of your new position, you are likely going to go through a training period. In other words, you might work as an apprentice, or you may have a senior staff member supervise you for a short time. The boss might guide you through the beginning stages of your job.At first, you might think that you should simply smile and nod your head in the affirmative at every word said to you. However, this type of listening is passive. While you don’t want to take over the conversation, you should take notes, ask questions and use other cues to show that you are absorbing the material.4) Ask QuestionsevalNo matter where you are in your career, you should ask questions when necessary. Spitting out an abundance of questions in rapid-fire succession is not the best approach, but neither is quietly sitting at every staff meeting. If you tend to get nervous thinking of questions on the spot, consider reviewing material for discussion before meetings so that you can start to prepare a couple of questions that you might ask. Ask meaningful questions that show you’re engaged in the conversation and that show you want to better your work.eval5) LeadWhen you act as a leader, you have the opportunity to show your bosses that you have confidence and that you have strong knowledge of the subject area. If your job asks people to volunteer as leaders for certain projects, put your hand up the next time a request goes on. In other cases, you may need to earn lea dership roles.Consider having a conversation with your boss to express that you are interested in pursuing this path.6) Attend Professional Development OpportunitiesevalAs emails roll into your work account, you might be tempted to delete some of the seemingly less important ones. For example, if you work at a large entity with hundreds or thousands of employees, you might read only those emails that directly involve you instead of ones sent out to the entire team of employees. However, these emails might contain information about professional development opportunities. Attending these sessions show your boss that you have a larger interest in your job than just a paycheck.Furthermore, the point of professional development is to help you improve at work, so you can gain multiple benefits.7) Treat Clients and Customers with RespectIf your general approach in life is to treat everyone whom you meet with respect, you’re already then doing well in terms of this concept. On the other ha nd, you may find that you’re in a bad mood regularly and take these feelings out on customers.Think about how you want to be treated when you are a client or a customer at a business or store. Really ask yourself if you behave in this way toward your own clients and customers. Adjusting how you approach people and infusing a more respectful and friendly demeanor can impress your boss.8) Motivate ColleaguesThe connections among colleagues can certainly have an effect on the entire office and how your boss perceives you. While you don’t necessarily want to take on a managerial role when you haven’t been assigned to do so, consider how you can still motivate colleagues. For example, if your coworkers are having a rough time getting through the project, simply tell them what you like about what they have done so far. Taking small steps to act as a motivator can impress your boss and open the door to a better environment and more opportunities.9) Connect SociallyIf you tend to stay to yourself at work, you boss may wonder how committed you are to being a part of the team. While you don’t necessarily need to start going out every night with your colleagues, you can look for opportunities to connect socially.Opening yourself up more to people can impress your boss. Also, simply having these types of bonds with colleagues can for a more enjoyable work environment, which is likely to get on your boss’s good side.10) Take InitiativeevalThink about the last time that you proposed a new idea at work. If you haven’t ever done so or have not done so in a long period of time, you may then better learn how to take initiative. Bosses often want to know that your mind is thinking about the company and its needs. When you never offer suggestions or take initiative on a project, you may seem as though you’re simply there for the paycheck. This can make you look like a wrong hire.11) Offer Creative SolutionsKnowing whether or not your boss is a fan of outside-of-the-bo x thinking can help you to better assess the usefulness of this suggestion. If your boss tends to value creativity, think about how you can this approach into your work. Sometimes, expressing a creative solution is a bit scary. You may not know how your boss and colleagues will react. The hope is that even if the solution is not adopted, your fellow team members will respect the creative spirit of your suggestion.Source â€" Pexels.com12) Follow RulesWhile some methods for impressing your boss involve thinking differently, others involve simply following the rules. You might be surprised to hear that following all of the rules can impress your boss.evalHowever, consider the number of people who break a rule here and there and don’t think that doing so is a big deal. Showing respect for the guidelines that your boss has created can improve how are considered at work.13) Meet DeadlinesIf you find yourself constantly asking for more time on projects, consider how that behavior looks in the eyes of your boss. You may come across as lazy, or it may seem as though you don’t know how to handle the work. Even when neither of these statements is true about you, consider the immense value of perception. In the event that you are constantly asking for extensions, really evaluate why this situation keeps happening. Maybe you can integrate exercises to improve your typing speed, or perhaps you have to set a calendar of smaller deadlines so that you can meet the bigger one.14) Keep Your Space CleanMaybe you’ve observed other employees who fail to treat their workspace with respect. They might have stacks of old papers on their desks, or they might treat the floor as though it is their personal wastebasket.Feeling comfortable at your job and in your space is important, but you also want to show that you have respect for the professionalism of the environment. Start working to clean up your space. You may find that having greater physical clarity allows for more mental cla rity on your next project as well.15) Evaluate YourselfYou might have evaluations at work where you get a sense of what your boss would like for you to improve upon. Think back to your most recent evaluations and ask if you have integrated these suggestions. In the event that evaluations are not a part of your work environment, consider places where you know you are weaker.By putting the effort in to resolve these issues, you can have a better experience at work. Furthermore, you are likely to impress your boss if you work to address your own weaknesses.16) Consider PerspectiveWhen you receive a critique or a new assignment from your boss, your first instinct might be to roll your eyes once your superior is no longer in the room. When these feelings come to the surface for you again, take a couple of minutes to reflect.Ask yourself why your boss provided this criticism, or consider the reasons why your boss asked you to complete this particular assignment. Sometimes, simply looking at a situation from another person’s perspective can help you to better understand that person. And when you take the suggestion and act accordingly the next time, your superior will most likely be impressed.17) Stay OrganizedConsider how you look if your boss asks you for an important report and you have to scramble through a number of files and folders to find the requested information. Even when your workspace is kept clean and clear, you may still have a haphazard way of setting down information and not remembering where you put it.Getting organized and using a proper system of filing, whether virtually or through paper copies, can impress your boss and make your life easier.18) Learn try out New Technologies and MethodsThanks to the internet and countless new startups popping up everyday, you can learn how to do your job better with different tools and services. And when you find something that works better than what others in the company use, tell your Boss about it. Let me share with you an instance from my own life. While browsing on Product Hunt one day, I came across New Old stamp, an email signature tool. I really liked the attractive email signature designs so decided to use it in my emails. When I emailed my Boss the next time, he found my signature to be really interesting. He later implemented the use of it company wide as he thought it made our emails look more professional. I did not get a raise for it but sometimes simple recognition is enough for your self esteem.19) Discuss AccomplishmentsYou might think that talking about your accomplishments at work can come across as bragging. When you are constantly integrating this details into daily conversations, you may certainly sound boastful. On the other hand, if you never bring these topics into discussions, you may sound as though you don’t care about your accomplishments or that you are ashamed of them. For example, if you attended a convention related to the job or earned an award for your work in the field, you should certainly let your boss know.20) ParticipateA truly important way to impress your boss is to participate in your job as much as you can. You certainly don’t need to make your job the focus of your entire life. However, work to offer useful comments at staff meetings, and the next time the company orders shirts, hats or buttons to wear on the job, display yours with pride. These types of participation show that you view the job as more than just a way to bring in some money and that you are actually interested in the environment.Finding approval and impressing your boss are useful approaches for enhancing your work life. However, you don’t necessarily want to work harder. These techniques and methods allow you to accomplish your goal of impressing your boss.
